Sunny again

Apparently its to turn to snow at the weekend!!

Busy morning, chap came to check for asbestos, I really hope there is none, I just could not stand having to move out whilst its removed if thats what is to happen if they find it. Even the thought fills me with horror.

We decided to eat at lunchtime as I am expecting a grocery delivery between 5 - 6 tonight, so sausage mash and mixed veg. We will have something on toast later.

I have had to spend the morning trying to sort out my bank account. According to the Bank I have more in the account than is showing on Microsoft Money. I have been right through both accounts and cannot find the error so have started another account on a spreadsheet. I need to know that we are not going to run in to overdraft, so I forecast at least 2 months ahead.

Towels washed and out on the line, they should be dry. Will fetch them in a bit later.

Jabbed

Just got home after having my second jab, so 3 weeks and everything should be ok.  So thats both of us done.

I put a load of laundry in before I went out, its a lovely bright day, the wind has dropped so, it will be going on the line shortly to dry.

Very little traffic either way, although I did get stuck behind a JCB on the way in. Lots of daffodils on the verges, spring is here. As it was Market day I went in the back way, did not want to get stuck in the market traffic. Coming back through the town there did not seem to be many people around, but once I got up to the cattle market there were quite a few people around, heading for the town centre.

Our favourite delivery firm, not, were supposed to deliver a parcel yesterday, at 8.30 last night 'we could not deliver your parcel as there was no one in'. Well sunshine we were in all day so thats a lie. If it does not arrive I will be ringing customer service at M & S, no point ringing Hermes, they do not answer the phone.

So Once I have drunk my morning tea I will go out and hang out the laundry, then DB can go out into the garden, he is champing at the bit!!

No idea whats for supper tonight, will have to see what I have in the freezer for a quick supper with ice cream to follow.

Almost Freedom

The lockdown loosened slightly at midnight, I will be able to go across and see my neighbour, relieve her boredom a bit 12 weeks is a long time.

Spring is here there daffs are out and almost everything in the garden is showing signs of growth, a few things need dead wood cutting out, I need to put on my garden clogs and go and have a good look round. I also need to construct the second obelisk  and get it in place before the rose growth get too old.

Cleaner here this morning, bed stripped, washer has just finished so I am off to put it on the line, hopefully it will dry. We are forecast warmer weather this week. I will believe it when I see it.

DB is out painting the gantry that carries the power cable over to the shed. I need to go and hold the ladder. Still have not received the bill.

Supper tonight is egg and chips, possibly ice cream for dessert, we have some which needs using up.

First day of a new week

Many people seem to use Sunday as the first day of the week. It does not bother us whether its Sunday or Monday......every day is the same.

Its dry and windy at the moment, the sun keeps trying to come out but is not making much of a fist at it.

DB has some clearing up to do in the shed, so he will be off out shortly for his half an hour plus fifteen minutes.......he may not last the full time, he does get tired quickly.
Did you all remember to put the clocks forward last night? I had to do the rounds and alter ours, the clock on the new cooker drives me dotty. I did manage to do it eventually. Thank goodness 3 of our clocks are radio controlled so adjust automatically.
Supper tonight is roast chicken, I froze slices off last weeks chicken breast, so they will go, wrapped in foil, into the top of the steamer whilst the veg is cooking. No idea whats for dessert, possibly a dish of ice cream.

Saturday, March 27, 2021

So its the weekend

not that we notice it that much, Sunday means a roast supper but that about it.

lovely sunny morning, but its brrr outside the wind is something else. I have turned the heat off till lunchtime and have windows open. DB has shown his displease by donning not one, but 2 jumpers!!! Tough.

A day of phone calls yesterday, one of which was my call to go and get my second jab. I see from this mornings papers that we are to get one in September as well.........so Tuesday morning will see me going into town to get my jab.

I did manage to sit at the machine for half an hour and work out the stitch I am going to use on Niblets quilt, The machine is threaded up ready to go. I have also cut out 2 sets of blocks for Little Miss's quilt, I want to make sure what I want to do is going to work.

Some of DBs seeds have sprouted on the sitting room window cill, he has more pots ready but needs new trays. 6 bags of compost delivered yesterday, so I can continue to clear out the pots and put fresh compost in. We need a visit to the nursery on the Nottingham Road, I want large stones for the fountain and what we call pea gravel for the hosta pots. I dug a weed out of one of the hosta pots the other day and a piece of root came with it, so I have potted it up, a new plant either to keep or possibly sell.

Supper tonight is all day breakfast and the rest of the bread and butter pudding I made yesterday from some stale hot cross buns.

Aarghhh

DB has had me going through hoops this morning over tax taken off one of his pensions.......when I had sat and worked everything out to an annual amount, he showed me the letter, they had not taken tax off him. The net amount was the same as the gross. I now have a headache!!

We had the call from the hospital yesterday DB does not have any signs of dementia, his STM is due to age. It was suggested that we tried to work out signs to help him remember things.

I have my appointment for my next vaccination, Tuesday at 9.30am, so that will be both us us sorted. I want to go to Wilkinson's for some things, so will stop off in the town as I come home.

Nothing really planned for today, I need to sort out fabric and wadding to do some stitch trials for Niblets quilt, I might go and do those after lunch.

Loaf on, fish and chips for supper, no idea about dessert, might do a bread and butter pudding.

Thursday, March 25, 2021

Oh what a beautiful morning!!

bright and sunny, heat off, windows open, lets get some fresh air in the place!!

DB managed to have a shut down after his injection yesterday, he was ok after a few minutes and recovered by the time I got him home. No idea what set him off this time.

Its the back of the shed to get the treatment this morning, then the coal shed will get the treatment. I am going to put an old fleece on and go out for half an hour to sort out some of the planters, we have ordered bedding plants to go in them. I also want to put the lily in a bigger pot too. I need to order compost.

Supper tonight will be bacon frittata and salad, possibly with ice cream for dessert.

Vaccine day

for DB and our neighbour, taking them both in for their jabs this morning. I am hoping to get mine next week. I need to go to the garage on the way home and put in fuel.

The quilt is layered up, just need to wrestle with it through the machine. I need to check the stitch on a piece of scrap fabric made up into a quilt like block to make sure its ok. Have not quilted a large quilt for some time. I also need to cut the stitch the fabric for the binding, I am going to join together strips of fabric that are in the quilt together to use them up.

It has rained overnight and it looks like we are due some more.

Supper tonight sausage and mash with beans, I have a couple of small sponge puddings, we will have them for dessert.

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

Quick post

Just got back from the chapel, the quilt is layered up and ready to be quilted, I will start in the middle and work out, its going to be interesting getting it under the needle, I have a shelf unit I am going to put at the side of my chair to rest it on. It took us an hour and a half.

Beef casserole for supper, I need to do the veggies. Possibly ice cream for dessert.

Monday, March 22, 2021

Another bright start

but it has clouded over, I hope it does not rain, I have two lines of laundry out. DB has put a coat of preservative in the end of the shed, just the back to do. The ground it too wet to do any gardening.

Chicken last night was very good, enough meat on it to do at least 2 more meals, DB wants salad tonight so guess it will be a jacket spud as well.

Bag packed ready to go round to the chapel and try and layer up the quilt again. I have cut two experimental blocks for Little Miss's quilt, have to decided how I am going to put them together once they are cut up.

Nothing planned for the rest of today....apart from supper, we will  have another portion each of the crumble from last night, enough left for tomorrow.

I need to print out the menu list for next month and check stocks see if there is anything we are really short.of.

Sunday, March 21, 2021

Spring has sprung

Well at least it had, we woke to a bright sunny morning but it has clouded over now.

Our usual slow start to the day, I prepped the veg for supper and made and cooked an apple crumble for dessert.

I had a letter to send to the council and also needed to fill in the census form. Gosh they sure did want to know a lot about us, still its done, sent and I have received an acknowledgment that it has arrived at its destination, so thats it for another 10 years.

DB has been out in the garden for 40 minutes this morning, he keeps pushing the boundaries, I warned him he would get no sympathy if he over did it. Whats left today will still be there tomorrow!!

Wadding arrived yesterday I have opened it out so the fold drop out, we will go to the chapel on Tuesday and hope to get Niblets quilt layered up. Its going to be interesting getting it quilted!! Little Miss's will be much smaller!!

We have roast chicken and veggies, with apple crumble to follow tonight, will be enough chicken for tomorrows supper, or chopped up mixed with onion and  mayo, for sandwiches for lunch.

Saturday, March 20, 2021

Hey Ho another day

A fairly quiet day yesterday, did not do much except sit and read. DB was tired, he missed his siesta on Thursday, so was glad to go for an hour in the afternoon.

We had a bad night last night, he could not settle, so were reading till about 2am. hope today is a better day and night. I know that waiting for the phone call from the hospital is playing on his mind........not that I am looking forward to it myself, it will in many ways be a relief to find out what is going on.

I have a gammon joint to cook, will use the liquor to make lentil soup for lunch.

DB is off out to put his garlic in, he has been itching to do it all week.

There is an order from Sainsbury coming this afternoon, so it will be pack away time again. No substitutions this time.

So pork and leek casserole with veg for supper will have the remains of a lemon cheese cake for dessert.

Friday, March 19, 2021

So we wait again

Frustrating but no choice but to wait for a phone call next week to see if DB has to go for another head scan or not. The nurse who was doing the tests, pulled up the reports on the scans he had last year........

We were both shattered when we got home, we had our ding supper and then sat and watched mindless TV until we went to bed.

We were late waking up, but so what? we no longer have to go to work, we can stay in bed all day if we want.  I do think that staying in for the past 12 months has affected DB as well as his flirt with death last year.......I know he will not improve, the damage has been done, but hopefully once we are right out of lockdown and able to get away things will stabilize a bit.

Supper tonight is fish and chips, I need to sort out a dessert, we may just have a scoop of ice cream for dessert.

DB and my neighbour have appointments for their second jab next week, I guess mine will come in the week after, so 2 journeys into the town. I need fuel for the car so can do that at the same time.

Thursday, March 18, 2021

Prepared for the worst

We go to get the results from DB's memory test this morning, I am not looking forward to it. We have to drive into Leicester to   a hospital which is right on the east side of the City, not easy to get to. The appointment asks for us not to be in the car park more than 5 minutes earlier than the appointment time, no an do, I have not idea how long the drive in will be, so they will just have to put up with me cluttering up the car park till they collect us for his appointment.

Quiet day yesterday, my cleaner called in with a couple of things she had got from Sainsbugs, I have an order coming but not till Saturday. I am undecided about having a regular order from them, if I do click and collect from Aldi at least we get out for an hour in the car. I like Aldi's meat, but recently their fruit has been rather suspect, I have had bad apples in each of the last two orders. My frugal side wants to continue using Aldi, Sainsbury are expensive, but I cannot rely on my cleaner to pick up stuff like fruit each week. If I use Sainsbugs I have to order £40 of groceries. I might try Morrison they are a bit cheaper.

M came round last night and made up the new, smaller bedside table, we moved the bed over a bit so DB has more room on his side. He is off up to Scotland next week for work......not a happy bunny, he likes to be at home each night.

We are having a ding meal tonight, I know what ever the outcome of todays hospital visit I will be crackered. I will need to order some more next week. I can ring either Monday or Wednesday and they will be delivered the next day.

we are no further forward, he had to do all the tests again, and like the first time he shut down when she asked him to repeat an address.......he was not out for long, and did continue and finished the test, he may have to go for a head scan, we have to wait and see what the consultant has to say.
The journey in was not too bad, but coming home it took us an hour and a half, problems with traffic, I had to dredge through my memories of Leicester and get us onto the road I wanted by a roundabout route. It has taken us an hour and a half to get home. I am shattered. At least we do not have to go back again, we will get a phone call sometime next week.
I am glad we decided to have a ding supper, I am shattered!!

Wednesday, March 17, 2021

Dull day

Very grey sky this morning, DB says it is not going to rain, I am not so sure. Load in the washer will maybe go in the dryer.

No real plans for today, I may cut out a couple of blocks for Little |Miss's quilt. I plan to use 5" blocks in a disappearing 9 patch, want to see how they are going to work out. Still waiting for the wadding for Niblets quilt.

I am not looking forward to tomorrow, we have to go and get the results of DB's memory test, afraid I am not expecting good news!!

Supper tonight is mince, either as spag bol or with dough balls and veg. I made a raspberry jelly yesterday, so will have more of that for dessert.

Tuesday, March 16, 2021

Wet, wet, wet

Looks like it has been raining all night, the gardener is due to come, but I doubt he will make it. DB wants him to shore up the apple tree. We have a stake which needs trimming and then putting in to pull the tree upright a bit. I also want all the wooden containers emptying, so we can put fresh compost and new plants in.

I have sent off for a larger piece of wadding, having got rid of the roll I had 2 years ago, I was not expecting to have to make Niblet a bigger quilt. Having done one for him I have to do a smaller one for Little Miss, I make sure that they are both treated the same.

I have put in for an order for two weeks groceries from Sainsbury, I have found that collecting the shopping and then unloading the car and putting it away is jiggering me, so a bit of a rest. I will still need my cleaner to get me fresh fruit when she goes to Sainsbury herself.

Supper tonight is pork casserole from the freezer and veggies. No idea about a dessert.

Monday, March 15, 2021

That was a waste of time

We carted all the quilting stuff, ironing board etc over to the chapel, got the backing on the table and the wadding, the wadding was too small for the quilt, not happy. It will be next week now, we have a busy week this week with various appointments.

Yesterday was quiet, we enjoyed our. scones for afternoon tea and also the pork I cooked for supper.

It was raining when we got up, it has cleared now but we have quite a strong wind.

Supper tonight, egg, chips and beans.

Sunday, March 14, 2021

Mothers Day

DD1 sent me flowers which are in the sitting room, yesterday DD2 sent a 'food box' from Morrison which contained all the makings for afternoon tea including clotted cream for the scones, we will be enjoying that later.

I have packed up the quilt, wadding and backing and all the equipment I need to go to the chapel in the morning to layer up the quilt ready for quilting. Have also put the iron and ironing board in so the fabric can be well pressed before I start. Will leave a message for the cleaner, we should be back before she goes.

Sheets off the bed in the washer, hope to get them mostly dry on the line, might have to finish them off in the dryer. Must make sure they are well pegged on, one of the towels took flight on Friday.....

Nothing much planned, apart from making the bed, my cleaner usually helps me, but I have changed the bed a day early, so will have to rely on DB doing his best. I have a couple of things to do bill wise but thats it for the day.

Veg prepped for supper, pork steaks, roasted veg, chocolate pudding and may be a little blob of clotted cream!! Yum Yum

Saturday, March 13, 2021

Saturday

A busy day one way or another, two deliveries, my new chopping board and an afternoon tea parcel from DD2 for Mothers day. Lots of goodies to eat and a bottle of lemonade and some tea bags, also included a 2pt bottle of milk. We will enjoy it tomorrow.

Supper last night was cooked on the new stove, I do need to remember that when you switch the gas off, its off. I was used to turning the electric plates off 5 minutes before the end of cooking time.

I am so looking forward to being let out of lockdown, there is so much I need to do, and places we need to go as well. It would be nice to be able to go out for Sunday lunch occasionally.

It was wet early on, but the sun broke through, we have had a couple of light showers since and the wind is still very cold.

Supper tonight, cold meat, salad and jacket spud. I made a bread and butter pudding yesterday so we will finish it off today.

Friday, March 12, 2021

At last

We now have a gas cooker , the same size as the old electric cooker. It was weird using the gas to cook the pasta last night. The glass lid protects the top when its not in use. It arrived before the earliest projected time and it was fitted and working in 20 minutes. Had to light the ovens and leave on high heat for half an hour and then after it was cooled down wiped it out and then stacked the new tins in it. I am going to try out the top oven later, will make a ring of scone.

It was a lovely day, DB was out in the garden, he has put a coat of preservative on the front of the shed. It will need a second coat.

When we went to bed last night the bedroom was quite warm which is unusual. I woke about 2am, sweating.....put my hand on the radiator, it was hot....the chap who fitted the cooker had switched the boiler to 24hour use and not switched it back. Phew......

Towels in the washer, its a bit dull and we have had rain overnight, will hang them out if it clears up.

Supper tonight will be smoked haddock, poached egg and bread and butter. I had an ice cream bar in the freezer so we will have a slice of that for dessert.

Thursday, March 11, 2021

Today is the day

I am not getting excited, I have run foul before, but my new smaller cooker is coming sometime today, they have given me a 4 hour delivery spot between 11.45 and 3 45. So we will see. B came last night, took the bed head, steamer and also the cooker. My neighbour had disconnected it earlier in the evening.

It rained for most of yesterday, we have bright sun just now, how long for is any ones guess. DB is going out, the ground is too wet to do much, so he is going to sort out seed trays and fill them ready for seeds to go in.

I have cooked 2 large chicken breasts, we will have some tonight with pasta and the rest will go in the freezer.

The lane outside the close is still closed at the bottom so had to go the long way round, found a detached house in the course of construction on Dairy Lane. The lane is a narrow road at the best of times, 3 houses were built on the opposite side of the road, soon after we moved here.

I ordered some new baking tins yesterday, from Pro Cook, I have used them before, very good quality........so my scabby old tins I have had for years went out. J took them for the skip yesterday, There is a skip in the car park of the hospice for metal, when its full its taken away and the money goes to the running costs of the hospice. Any old metal goes there. The new tins have just arrived, no postage and  next day delivery.

Well 11.30 and the gas cooker is in and on, needs to be on for 30 minutes and then allowed to cool right down before putting the shelves etc in, the inside needs a swish with a damp cloth. So We are cooking on gas. The delivery was well before time, the chaps thanked us for having everything ready for them, gate open etc. they were here for about 20 minutes. So now I have to get used to cooking with gas again.

Its a pity I did not put the towels in the washer, its blowing a hoolie, so they would have dried.

Wednesday, March 10, 2021

What a difference

This morning its teaming with rain and blowing a hoolie!! Glad I do not have to go out.

DB's memory is getting worse, I asked him yesterday to shut the bedroom window and turn the radiator back on, He turned the rad on but swore I had not told him to close the window, so all yesterdays heat literally went out the window. Not happy. I will be happier when we have the results of the test he had back in January. They are due later this month.

I have the stuff out to clean the cooker top and wipe it down, cannot do the sides until B has it out. Also need to take all the tins out. I have found the instruction book so will leave it in the grill tray and the stove top cleaner with it. No point in me keeping it. No idea until later tonight what time they will come to deliver and connect it. I just hope there are no problems this time.

No sewing yesterday, I will speak to B this morning about using one of the big tables at the chapel.

Not much planned for today, apart from sorting out the cooker. Once its been collected I will sort out the floor etc so its clean for the new one to go in. I will be happier with the gas hob, its easier and more economical to use than the electric. At least I will be able to use the hob in a power cut.

DB has taken himself off to do the filing, there is a load of stuff that needs sorting, some of it could be shredded. I am considering changing the bedroom round a bit once I have the new bedside table sorted. The footboard on the bed means that it is slightly longer than the divan.

I have a loaf to slice, made it yesterday, I usually make a large one, this time I made an extra large, will see if it lasts us a bit longer.

Supper tonight will be fish and chips, our usual Friday fare, thats because the stove will be gone by then and I do the fish and chips in the microwave oven. We will have poached haddock on Friday.

The flowers that bloom in the spring Tra La

Really have nothing to do with the case....its a bright sunny spring like morning, no idea how cold it is, have not been out of the door yet. According to the local weather man (DB) I need to make the most of it, tomorrow its going to rain!! The little daffs are out in the front garden and their larger relatives in the back are budding up. Lots of the shrubs are showing signs of new growth.

M came yesterday and gave the grass its first cut of the season. It was getting quite long, so regular visits from now on, so need to draw extra cash into my pay out jar.

Just after he left it started to rain, so the laundry got shoved into the dryer.

I need to sort the backing for the quilt, since Sundays episode I have become rather ambivalent towards it, which is a sign I need to get it sorted and away.

The new cooker comes on Thursday so I need to get the electric one sorted tomorrow, so need to phone B and get him to collect it tomorrow so I can clean the floor and walls before the new one goes in. I have chosen one with a glass lid this will protect the wall from grease splashes etc. I have warned DB that he might get a few cremated meals, its years since we had a gas cooker. 2007 to be exact.

Supper tonight is bacon frittata and salad........possibly ice cream for dessert.

What happened there then

Last night DB got the programme guide up on the TV and we could not get rid of it. I spent ages messing around to no avail, so I repaired to bed and watched the TV in the bedroom. This morning I switched it on and away it went. Obviously it was having a hissy fit.

Laundry is in the washer, nasty pill taken.......not sure how cold it is outside but I think the laundry will be going on the line as long as I remember its out, its so long since I hung washing out.

The lamb yesterday was delicious, I need to take the meat off the bone, not that there is an awful lot left, but it will do us for one more meal and the bone will go for stock.

I had a disaster yesterday with the fabric for the quilt backing, I had sewn the two pieces together and then went and sliced through one bit, so have undone it, cannot be bothered to match it up so will just sew the seam down and press it open. I intend to have a couple of weeks off once its finished and then do the one for Little Miss for her birthday in October, once thats out of the way NO MORE!! I am finished with big quilts.

DB will be out in the garden for a while this morning, his net tunnels came yesterday. He said that the cat has chosen a new place to perform, the strawberry bed, so that will get covered today.

Sunday, March 7, 2021

Well thats a surprise!!

We have blue sky and sun, its still rather cool, but DB is quite happy bumbling in the garden, it will be time for him to come in soon.

I was rudely awaken by the door bell this morning, a delivery for DB, we have had to buy net tunnels to stop the cat **** in the garden, its not nice pulling something up and finding you have a free gift, a dollop of cat **** with it.

No way is niblets quilt going to be finished, I have matched the seam on the backing  material, I now have to sew it, undecided what to do. Whether to use a tiny zigzag stitch or the wavy line that  I am going to use on the rest of the quilt. I need to check and see what thread I have to do it with. I might use navy blue on the top and a pale green in the bobbin. That way, if I decide to use the wavy line on the quilt, it will match in.

Veg prep done for supper, roast shoulder of lamb with roast spuds and parsnips, carrots cauli and calabrese. I will use the marinade for the gravy along with a lamb stock cube. Think we will have a dollop of ice cream for dessert, we have some that needs eating up.

Saturday, March 6, 2021

A grey day

Both the weather and me. I will be really glad when we have had our second jab and are able to really 'go out' again. 15 months is a long time out of anyones life, but especially when you are 'on borrowed time' so to speak.

I turned the two patches round in the quilt, very fiddly, but its done, am now 'matching' the football fabric for the back. It is not going to be done for next Thursday........maybe another week.

DB is out for his half hour in the garden, he now realises himself that half an hour is enough. Will make the morning tea when he comes in.

When I did my Aldi order this week I ordered a 'treat' a jam and clotted cream swiss roll.....oh my goodness it is delicious.....such a shame when cake with afternoon tea is all you have to look forward to.

Hopefully we will be able to get away for a few days in May, it has been booked for ages. I use bookings.com I can cancel without penalty if I have to. We are hoping to go to North Derbyshire, just a change of scenery will be wonderful.

Steak pie and veggies prepped for supper, when I have had my morning tea I will be sorting out the shoulder of lamb that we are having tomorrow.

Friday, March 5, 2021

Massive oopppsss

I photographed the quilt yesterday and to my horror I found a mistake, one of the pieces of a block were the wrong way round.......today I will unpick it and put it back in right. A suggestion has been made that I use navy fabric to bind the quilt, well I have spent enough on this quilt without having to buy more for the binding, so sorry, pale blue it is. I am not that much of a perfectionist. This morning I found a second patch near the bottom which was also the wrong way round.

So gas cooker ordered, delivery next Thursday. I have had the headboard on freecycle, no one wants it so it will also go towards money for the charity. Cannot do with it hanging about any longer.

Fine morning, but cold, have the washer on, will hang it on the line to dry, window open in the bedroom , radiator off.... need to remember to put it back on when I close the window.

Fish and chips for supper tonight, possibly chocolate mousse for dessert.

Update:

So I have undone the two squares and turned them, took me half an hour to do each one, then I measured the quilt and the backing. I really do not need to tell you that the backing was only 1 1/2" longer then the quilt, and it needed to be joined. I decided to join it and then put it on the back across ways instead of up and down, so it can be turned over and swivelled round and the footballers will be the right way round. I am going to join the fabric using a very tiny green zig zag stitch, I will then trim off the inside seam and press it before putting the whole thing together. I hate matching fabric.....its about a 4" match.

Finished for today.......back and shoulders are giving me hell just now.

Thursday, March 4, 2021

OOppsss

Collected my order this morning from Aldi, found there were several things in the bags that I had not ordered.......I have checked the list and they have not been charged for...1 cucumber, I was sent 2, ordered one. Gala apples, pears, Advacado pears, hate them would never eat them. and parsnips. Phoned up to tell them, got through and was then cut off.....cannot find their eamil address.......so .........

All the borders are on the quilt, its very big so will have to get 2 people to hold it up so I can photograph it, DB does not have long enough arms.

We came home the back way and were suprised to see how far on they are with the housing estate thats being built, quite a few houses almost finished.

No sewing today, I am jiggered, DB wanted some wood preservative so we had to call at Tool Station to pick some up.

Very dull day, grey sky, it has rained on and off and it looks as if we are in for some more at some point in the very near future.

Sausage, mash and veggies for supper, not sure anout a dessert as yet, will see what DB fancies.

Niblets Quilt, DB was holding it by the side edge.

The embroidered blocks running down the centre of the quilt.

The piano border, forms a secondary pattern, as does the quilt itself if you look carefully.

Argghhh I have just spotted a mistake in the quilt, this is why I like to photograph them, its not the first time!!

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

And again

Nothing planned for the day except to sew on the top and bottom borders of the quilt and press it, then the fun starts.

Dull day, rain is forecast, not happy about that but not much I can do. Apparently there is more bad weather on the way......brilliant......

The garage collected the car yesterday, the tyre had a split in it, lucky it did not blow. so a bit more out of the car fund. I need to do a forecast, I think we need to increase the amount we put in the household account each month.

DB out in the garden for half an hour this morning. I started to put the top border on the quilt, I needed an extra block to make it long enough,

We are having a frozen meal for supper tonight, DB is having corned beef hash and me a pork and leek casserole. We finished the trifle last night.

Everyday the same

as the day before........ its getting a bit wearing now, I am doing my best to keep upbeat but it is hard at times.

No sewing done yesterday I will put the two long borders on today and pin on the top and bottom ones.......then it will be a case of pressing the whole thing which should prove interesting.

The new gardener came yesterday, he was with us an hour, I got him to cut back the shrubs that were getting out of control and also the climbing rose on the fence which got a bit out of hand when DB was in hospital. He is coming again in a couple of weeks, when he next goes to Long Clawson, he comes to us first.

Cleaner was also here, so nice clean bungalow.

My third tablet arrived and so far so good.......it did not start closing down as soon as I switched it on.

Supper tonight is beef casserole which I will be starting as soon as the breakfast pots are cleared. We were both late waking this morning, the new bed is very comfortable. the slats spring as you move, each side of the bed has its own slats, so movement is individual........If I get out of bed, DB's side of the bed does not move.

So supper, beef casserole with veggies and the last of the trifle......

A quiet day

We spent a quiet day yesterday, chap came and collected both of the Samsung tablets, and willingly signed the note for me. A very pleasant chap. AO rang later and I told them I had returned both tablets, so I will get a refund. Decided to go with an up market Lenovo, my original tablet was a Lenovo. Its due to come sometime today.

I decided to get up early, so sneaked out of bed when I took my osteo medication. Much better nights sleep last night, my back had been bothering me during the day, so I took 2 pain killers before I went to bed.

Laundry to do this morning its a bit misty, so hopefully the sun will break through and I may get it dry on the line. Cleaner due this morning.

I have some veggies to use up so will do a cauliflower and calabrese gratin with jacket spuds for supper. I have a couple of gammon slices left so will do those with it. The is enough trifle left from yesterday for today and tomorrow. Need to take stewing beef out of the freezer to cook tomorrow.

I have the rest of the border done for the quilt, so will try and get at least two bits sewn on today, hopefully will get that bit finished tomorrow, need to take the wadding out of its packaging and leave it to 'fluff up' again, the creases will drop out. then I need to tackle the backing.
