Meeting Day

There is a meeting in the village hall for all the council tenants in the village. Apparently the council are to spend a ? vast amount of cash to bring properties up to standard. All I can say is if they use the present contractors it will just be a giant mess!! Will see what they have to say. The repairs office came and I signed the letter re the greenhouse. He inspected the site and signed it off, I think really he wanted to have a look at the garden, he spent enough time looking at it!!

More strawberries picked, some taken to my neighbour we keep an eye on. The casserole last night was delicious and there is enough for another supper.

DB got his monitor taken off yesterday, as usual the pads have set up an irritation, it will take a few days to clear. He is allergic to the jelly they use. I need to change the dressing on his ankle. The Dr has put him on antib's for a week, she is going to contact us in 2 weeks to see how its going on.

A quiet day yesterday, I was feeling a bit one degree under, still not having decent nights sleep for some reason.

Load of towels in , DB assures me that there is going to be no rain, so they will go on the line to dry, will finish them off in the dryer for 10 minutes to 'fluff' them up.

Supper will be frittata and salad, no prizes for guessing whats for dessert!!

Its arrived

and bang on time. The greenhouse arrived just after 1pm, the chap kindly put the packages up on the top lawn, the crate with the glass in is leant on the shed. We hope to get it up at the weekend.

DB got his monitor fitted and slept the night through, better than me, I have not had a decent night since we got back. We have to take his monitor back today, and he is waiting for a call from the GP re his leg. I think he needs some antib's, am keeping a careful watch on it.

Recently I bought a 'job lot' of meat, we have sampled the sausages and also the pork chops, today I plan to braise a piece of the steak for supper. We are still picking strawberries, so they will be dessert with some ice cream.

Rain

After a dull day yesterday its raining this morning, DB says it will clear.

We spent a bit of time in the garden yesterday, I cut back a plant that was behaving like a triffid....... it needs digging up and splitting.

DB had his usual siesta, M came round to cut the grass, so its all nice and tidy again. Just in time for the greenhouse to be put on it when it arrives later today.

Have a trip to the Drs this morning DB has to have a 24 hour monitor fitted, again!!! I cannot count the number of times he has had one....hey ho, he has to phone to speak to the Dr tomorrow re his ankle, there is a little bit of infection in it, could  maybe do with a course of antib's.

I cut out the rest of the pieces for the quilt, am only doing 3 x 4 blocks this time, its a cuddle quilt, not a bed sized one.

A message this morning from our friends in Norfolk, their second grand daughter arrived a little before her time, lovely pictures of her with her 'big sister' and Granny and Grandpa.

We are drowning in strawberries, another big bowl full yesterday, running out of people to give them to........

Supper tonight will be chicken, salad and jacket spud.

Will it ?

Not sure if we are going to get sunshine today, its looking a bit dull and have to admit its rather cold!

Last night I went out to water the hanging baskets, as I walked across from the back door there was a rushing sound and the far basket, plugs and all fell out, a new steps further and it would have hit me. I guess we are going to have to get some stronger plugs for the wall. The basket was a wee bit crushed and one of the fuchsias had broken off. I have it in water and will be trying to strike it.

Gardener came yesterday afternoon, he has cut back the clematis on the fence,  cut back the laurel that was fighting with the peony and weeded behind the shed. We then went over to my neighbours and planted up two more containers for her. and T started to rake out the thatch in her lawn. I was astounded at the amount he got out, half filled the green waste bin.

Supper is prepped, roast chicken and veg, strawberries for dessert. DB picked a big bowl full yesterday so I gave some to T and took a small bowl over to my neighbour.

Its Saturday

and it looks like rain.

Yesterday afternoon the gardener came, we went to our next door neighbour and cut down and lifted 3 rose bushes, whether they will do any good remains to be seen, at the moment they are in a bucket of water. We also dug up a clematis which will go on the awful wire fence at the front of the bungalow.I wish we could get rid of it, but doubt if we would be allowed to.

T also moved the slab that is to be at the entrance of the greenhouse, I am not sure its in the right place, it started to pour with rain whilst we were still doing it.

I cut off 4 stalks from the lupin  plants there are already new flower heads coming up. I am going to dry them off and keep some of the seed for next year. I did do a bit more sewing yesterday, today I mean to check all the blocks and make sure they are the same size, before I start putting them together and laying it up to see how the design works.

Supper is pork casserole with veggies and will will of course be picking strawberries for dessert.

New place for a visit

On the way home we called in at the nursery, they had just opened the coffee shop called the potting shed. We enjoyed a cup of coffee, they have a light but varied menu, will call again.

It was quite a sunny day but there was a breeze. Once the groceries were away we had lunch and DB went for his siesta, I read for a while.

It has rained overnight and is rather grey this morning, I fear there may be more rain to come, so its possible that the gardener will not come, we will have to see.

DB picked more strawberries last night, I took some over to my neighbour, she loves them. Next door neighbour called in with a bag of postcrete to concrete the anchors for the greenhouse in. We were hoping to get the slab in today.

I need to start work on Little Miss's quilt, I really want to get it done and out of the way, have other projects to think about.

Supper is the usual Friday night fish and chips with, of course, strawberries for dessert.

Grocery day

In to town to collect an order from Aldi, just a small top up. I have decided to have fresh milk delivered in glass bottles from next week. Its more expensive than the supermarket, but it saves 2 heavy containers in my shopping. Also as I have spread the delivery I will not have to freeze it. So I will not have to remember to take it out of the freezer and defrost it. I will keep a couple of cartons in the cupboard, just in case.

Lovely meal with DD2, just sandwiches but so nice to see everyone again. Little Miss had her hair up in bunches, my goodness she is cute. Knows what she wants. Her sandwich was on white bread, like us they do not eat white bread so she took the ham out and left the bread. She also ate half of DGD's donut, after asking nicely for some. DGD has shed 4 stone since she had the gastric band fitted, She has also had her hair cut short, DD2 was complaining that A was wearing her clothes!!! Its a long time since that happened. The band was fitted to cope with a medical condition she has.

I was out for over an hour last night watering the garden. When we were away I saw a miniature campanula planted in a sink, I have managed to source both that and the pyramidalis, which can grow to 6ft. so I have ordered them. Garden purse is now padlocked until the bulb catalogues come out. I am not mad keen on tulips, but have seen some really nice ones on our garden visits, so I am going to order enough to do 4 large pots of tulips with primulas for the spring. I still have some plants to put in. There is plenty for the gardener to do tomorrow.

Supper tonight will be pork casserole I think unless it turns really hot again in which case I will do something else. It will be strawberries for dessert.

In the few days we have been away the garden has gone mad.

Need to take the seed heads off the lupin so the other flowers can come through, The white carpet rose is going up rather than across.

The rose on the obelisk, a lovey pale pink cannot remember what its called.

The clematis on the fence with the compassion rose coming through, one the clematis has finished flowering it will have to be cut back, then I can also prune the rose.

Something has eaten the leaves of the solomons seal, they will be cut off tomorrow when the gardener comes.

Campanula carpatica, spreading under the black grass, I need to divide the grass and possibly the campanula, will plant it up higher up in the bed.

Home

We made it back home, much better journey. We got up a bit earlier and packed the car then went in for breakfast, double poached egg on toast each!! We set off and thanks to very little traffic made it to see Angie and her husband Bob in good time. such nice people. I have to admit we gassed for an hour longer than we should have. I got a tour of their lovely bungalow and DB and Bob put the world to rights.

We left just after 12 noon and after a traffic jam free journey, landed home in bright sunshine just before 3pm. Quick dash into the garden, I was worried the weather would have damaged the garden, but its all looking great.....phew.

Several phone messages left including one to say that DB's greenhouse is being delivered on Monday......what????? I thought it would be September at least. So we need to get the gang ready to get it up, plus a quick call to the council to make sure its ok. I doubt I will see much of DB now, he will be pottering in his greenhouse.

I need to get on with the quilt for Little Miss, once thats out of the way I need to make another book cushion for a little girl, then I can concentrate on what I am going to do for Christmas presents this year.

We enjoyed our break away, it was good to relax a bit instead of tearing around like a headless chicken.

Supper was a ding lamb casserole. DB picked a bowl full of strawberries so strawberries and ice cream for dessert.

Home James!!

Yesterday was a bit of a disappointment, we travelled into Great Yarmouth to fill up with fuel. Aiming for Asda we discovered the petrol station was closed, so used the sat nav to take us to Tesco where I filled up £50!! Gulp!! We then headed for the sea front.......big mistake, no parking, no sea, just the pleasure gardens fun fair, so we headed for our little cabin!!

DB had a siesta, I was reading. We had booked a table in the restaurant, the hotel has 2 rosettes, well deserved. The staff are used to seeing us, we were shown straight to our table and drinks arrived. DB ordered chicken and leek pie with cabbage and mash; I ordered rosemary baked chicken breast with broccoli, rosti potato and a mushroom cream sauce......oh my goodness it was delicious. We elected just to have coffee and then back to the cabin to watch a couple of TV programmes. The restaurant and bar were filling up, it is obviously a very popular place for a meal in convivial surroundings.

Car packed we headed for the A47 fingers crossed it was better than it was on Friday.

Our last day

Its our last day of our little break, its been nice to sit and watch the world go by and also have a walk through that lovely garden.

We had a nice meal yesterday, and came back to spend the afternoon chilling. We are off to Yarmouth this morning to fill up the car and maybe have a walk. It will not be a long one, we are both a little sore after our walk on Saturday.

Its a dry morning, there is a cold wind coming off the north sea which is making it feel a little 'fresh'. The sun keeps trying to break through.

We had a full breakfast this morning, we are booked in for supper here tonight, a last fling before we start our journey back tomorrow. Heres hoping its not as bad as when we travelled down.

It has been a refreshing break, with some much needed down time for me. We are going to Skipton in Yorkshire in September, so looking forward to that.

The church next door to us is one of the few remaining Churches with a thatched roof.

Click to enlarge it and you can clearly see the reeds on the roof.

Our 'very comfortable little cabin, called Bee.

Today's the day

DB is 88 today, a pity the weather has returned to rain, we were lucky yesterday, the rain held off all day. It did wake me in the night battering on the windows.

I am tired after  our marathon walk yesterday, so we are going out for lunch and will then come back and have a quiet day.

We have been over for breakfast, it seems a popular place to come to for Sunday breakfast, lots of people in as well as those 'in residence.' Several very large vehicles in the car park.

I must say the staff are very pleasant and obliging, they found us extra hangers and we went over yesterday and managed to get our lap tops connected to the wifi. There are one or two niggles but on the whole its a  very nice place to stay and comfortable.

The rain on Friday has battered a lot of the plants down, this beautiful peony has suffered quite badly

We are not the only eople who use a pot for a pond!!

Lovely pale pink and white peony.

Excellent use of a window in a hedge, the Church next door to the garden.

The borders on either side of the grass were nepeta, commonly known as cat mint, cats love to roll in it and I have to admit it smells like cat pee!!

DB's delight a veggie garden.

Another glimpse through a gate into the walled garden.

Bits of the garden grass had been allowed to be turned into small meadowed areas for wild life.

They raise all their own plants and the ones they sell, one of the many glass houses dotted about, this one full of geraniums.

One of my favourite plants allowed just to go wild. Foxgloves. This is the first year we have had foxgloves, lupins and delphiniums grow in aour garden. The mulch we had put down last year deterred the slugs and snails.

Lovely use of a sink, I suspect there is an old belfast sink under that concrete. The tine flowers on the left are an alpine campanula. I have been trying to get a pot of this plant for years. Unfortunately they did not have one in the sales area.

So thats the end of the garden tour. I could have taken hundreds of pictures, it was beautiful. So large that even the huge number of people visiting were not obvious till you got to the tea garden. I could also have spent a mint in the plant sales area, we would have needed a trailer to get them all home. One thing I did forget to photograph as a banana tree complete with signs of bunches of bananas developing.

No Rain

It had obviously rained overnight, but had stopped. We went over for our breakfast, really nicely cooked, and on hot plates!! Its a pet hate of mine hot food on cold plates.

We sat for an hour or so before setting off to East Ruston to see the gardens, they opened at 12 noon. There were quite a few cars in the car park when we got there, parked in a disabled spot and walked in.  30 acres before us. We both had walking sticks and , with a few 'sit downs' we managed to see a lot of it.......a superb garden, so close to the coast, less than a mile away from the sea, full of exotic and common or garden plants we all grow. We worked our way round to the cafe and had a cream tea before raiding the plant area.......such a lot of plants, I was spoilt for choice, we ended up with a white  lysimachia, bought for me by DB. I bought him the book of the garden. I wish we had bought it before we went in, however we have time now to read it and relive a really lovely visit. I managed to walk a lot further than I though I would, the pole helped and DB was better with his stick, talk about the blind leading the blind!!

Here are some of the photos I took, I will publish the rest tomorrow.

I thought at first this was a handkerchief tree, but its not covered in lovely white flowers.

'Thats the way to do it' a glorious way to show off different geraniums, love those huge pots, they would look out of place in my little garden though.

Plenty of areas left as wild meadows.

My goodness they are big hostas, make mine look like midgets!!

Another huge pot filled with plants.

The house is Arts and Crafts, although it has been extended to provide a tea room down the right hand side.

A real mix of herbaceous plants.

Tree ferns anyone?

What a shame no Parker to pick us up after our afternoon stroll. It was fine enough to have the hood down as well!!

The bed down the side of the tea room area.

DB trying to make up his mind what to buy for our little plot.

I have a headache

All jobs done. Bed remade, sheets etc washed and dried. Lunch over we packed the car and set off. The journey which should have taken us 3 hours at the most took 5 hours. I was exhausted when we got here. Drove through horrendous rain road partly closed for repairs, thanks to DB whittering I took a wrong turn. The GPS got me back on the right road.

We have the bee room in a separate unit in the garden. Nicely fitted out but I do wish they would give us hangers, just one in the unit!!

The restaurant is very busy, car park full, plenty of people coming and going. Lots of rather expensive motors, Mercs, Jaguars etc.

We will not be late out of bed!!

Thursday, June 17, 2021

Welcome rain

Apart from the hanging baskets I will not have to water tonight, we woke up to rain this morning, not a lot, but there seems to be more to come.

Its to be a busy day, I have the washer on, some of it will be hung up to 'air dry' the rest will do in the dryer, might need to do a quick press on a couple of things. So bags to be mostly packed, we always take one of the big shopping bags with us with things like books, camera's, cables etc. I made small drawstring bags for the tablet etc cables, so they all go in the same bag. Will also take my phone charger, just in case. We will have most of the morning at home anyway.

The chap is coming today to look at the carpet, expect a blast from me, what ever they decide to do if involves moving furniture!!

DB had a mini 'blank moment' yesterday at the coffee morning, he said he was too hot, I nipped home and got the car, he was fine afterwards. I made him stay inside till a bit later in the evening, it really was a scorcher, I had the sitting room fan on all day

Ding dinners tonight, we will have our Friday fish and chips tomorrow lunch time, before we set off, so I will pack up rolls for supper.

A walk up the garden this afternoon.

For years I have been trying to achieve this effect, so in the 6th year we have been here, a stuffed border.

I have never managed to get delphiniums and lupins to grow, thanks to the strulch we have managed to keep the slugs off them and they are flowering well.

Wednesday, June 16, 2021

Its not going to last!!

the weather that is. Rain is forecast for the whole of the time we are away!! Typical........

Hanging baskets were hung last night, they were too heavy for me to lift, so our strong armed neighbour came round and lifted them up. He was very jealous and asked me where I got them from!! He is going to come round each night and water them, there are a lot of plants in the so they will need plenty of water.

Coffee morning at the little Chapel this morning, I have the two remaining book pillows to take round with us, will also pull some rhubarb as well.

We are well into the strawberries now, picking everyday, have them with our cornflakes and also as a dessert after supper.

Quiche and salad tonight, its too hot for anything else.

Warm again

Sun is out, not been out yet so not sure how windy it is.

DB at the Doctors yesterday, he has to keep his leg covered, she suggested using vaseline on it before putting a new dressing on, so will do that tomorrow. He had palpitations whilst we were there, she was very concerned and has written to the cardiologist, she wants him to be seen again, this is the second time he has had them within in short while of the previous attack.

Chiropodist coming this morning, so feet ready for the holiday.

Had to water the garden last night it was so dry, DB picked a bowl of strawberries, so we will have them for dessert tonight. I am going to do chicken and bacon pasta, I use cream cheese to make the sauce, its yummy.

I will need to do a small wash on Thursday, there are a couple of things we want to take with us that need a quick swill. I have a 20 minute wash on the machine which will be enough.

Monday, June 14, 2021

Another scorcher!!

There is a breeze this morning, which hopefully will keep the temperature down a bit. It was too hot yesterday to sit out. We may well be able to sit out for our morning tea.

So nasty medicine taken at 7am, strawberries for breakfast, DB picked a lot yesterday. The forecast from Wednesday is for thunder storms for 3 days, brilliant just as we are going away.

Laundry in, will dry on the line. Busy week, DB has an appointment with the Dr. to check his leg this afternoon, Foot lady tomorrow. Coffee morning at the little chapel on Wednesday, will get rid of the two remaining cushions. Thursday the assessor is coming to look at the carpet and friday is getaway day. Not too sure how the extended lockdown is going to affect us meal wise.........We might end up at the fish and chip shop!!

Supper tonight may well be salad, possibly egg mayo, I have some eggs to use up. The bread and butter pudding will do for dessert.

Sunday, June 13, 2021

Sunshine all the way

The sun was blasting through the blinds this morning. DB got up and went straight out to the garden before it got too hot. I did the veggies for supper and also used up a stale teacake and some stale bread to make a bread and butter pudding for supper. I also prepped the veg, and ground more coffee beans and sliced the loaf I made yesterday.

We sat on the bench looking at the garden whilst we had our morning tea. The sun is moving round to the back, the fountain is going nuts, so we came into the sitting room which is nice and cool.

The case is on the bed in the back bedroom, I have put a couple of things in, must remember to tick them off the list.  The bulk of the packing will be done on Thursday and first thing Friday morning.

So roast pork and veggies,  bread and butter pudding for dessert.

Saturday, June 12, 2021

Finished

At last they are finished. I took the bull by the horns yesterday and finished the book pillows. One had gone to its new home the other two will go on Wednesday.

I wanted to clear the bed so I can lay out stuff to be packed for our few days away, so decided to finish the sewing and have a good clear out. All done, even put the GTec over the floor.

Re-dressed DB's war wound after his shower, have to give him a once over hair cut later, give it a chance to settle before we go away.

Its quite sunny but there is a breeze, so hopefully it will not get too hot, 25c is forecast for us, so we will be keeping in the shade.

All day breakfast for us tonight, may be strawberries and cream for dessert, we are picking a few every day.

Friday, June 11, 2021

A bit of a breeze.

I am pleased that DB is up on his feet, each time I have to take over his 'duties' I get tireder, yesterday was a case in point, I washed up the supper pots as I was going along. When I had finished I was shattered!!

DB now has a sterilized dressing on his ankle which he will change every other day. The nurse gave me some to be going on with and I have ordered a box. once they are done he will have to wear a dressing over it especially in the garden.

Its a bright morning but we have a breeze which hopefully will keep it cooler, I could not get off to sleep last night it was well after 2am before I dropped off. Mind you DB turning over and nicking the duvet did not help!!

A quiet day today, gardener will be here this afternoon, need to sort out watering if its hot whilst we are away, we go a week today for 4 days.

I need to get my act together and sort out the back bedroom so I can put clothes on the bed ready to pack. We take two wheelie cabin cases for clothes and then pack one of the big shopping bags with stuff like cameras etc and all the junk we take away with us.

Supper tonight is fish and chips and finish the trifle. DB brought in 6 strawberries this morning from the garden, the plants have a lot of fruit coming on them.

Thursday, June 10, 2021

Drs visit

this morning to check the ankle. For once DB has done as he was told and kept his leg up.  I think the amount of blood from such a small hole frightened him. We have a visit booked to take the dressing off and check, I guess he will have it re-bandaged.

Its a cooler morning, the sun has just broken through but its cloudy, so it comes and goes, it was really scorching again yesterday, the weather is not supposed to break until the weekend.

I have not looked at the cushions this week, they will just have to wait. I spoke to our support officer yesterday, reported the problems with the two workmen who called Tuesday.

The assessor is coming to look at the carpet next Thursday, just before we go away, will see what he has to say. I think he may suggest trying to clean it, good luck to them. What ever it will cost me £200.

Towels in the wash, there is a bit of a breeze so they should dry on the line.

Supper is sausage and mash with veggies, trifle with fresh strawberries if there are any for dessert.

Cistus and lupins.

This is the bare bit of the garden we plated up a few weeks ago.

The peony in the boggy bit of the garden.

Grocery shopping

I had an order in with Aldi click and collect, so had to leave DB at home with strict instructions that he was to go no where until I got back. It was 22c outside and its about 24 right now, there is a breeze which helps.

DB usually helps me unload and put the shopping away, today I had to do it all myself, so am as shattered as I was yesterday.

I had to go to the post office to post a card, they had just brought hot sausage rolls out, so I bought 3, one for my neighbour and one each for us. Sliced up a couple of tomato's, as always they were delicious. That was lunch sorted.

DB slept ok, which meant that I did, was up just after 8am, gave him breakfast in bed and then got him up before I went out.

He is having his siesta, so I am about to put my feet up and relax for an hour. Expecting a call re the claim for our bedroom carpet.

Supper tonight will be smoked haddock and poached egg. I picked up a raspberry trifle in the shopping this morning, so that will be our dessert.

Tuesday, June 8, 2021

Not an auspicious day!!

I was in the sitting room when DB yelled that he was bleeding......yes he was and had trailed blood from the bedroom into the hall and then the wet room. No idea where it was coming from till I saw his sock oozing.......he has a varicose vein on the inside of his right ankle, it had burst. It was playing like a fountain, shot up in the air and covered my top. Towel folded up leg over his left knee, I told him to keep pressure on it whilst I rang the surgery. Fortunately I managed to stop it, the Dr asked him to go down to the surgery to get it dressed to prevent it getting knocked and starting again.

The mess was horrendous, socks and tracksuit soaked, carpet in the bedroom and hall blood stained and the wet room looked like a slaughter house. I eventually got him onto the bed and kept his leg elevated whilst I got the blood out of the hall carpet and hosed down the wet room, The bedroom carpet and my top are beyond saving. It was even in my hair!!

His leg has 3 layers of bandage on from his foot to his knee , leg to be elevated at all times. He has to go back to the surgery on Thursday and then again on Monday. I am hoping that we are still going to be able to get away on 18th!!

I am shattered...........

Monday, June 7, 2021

Its Monday again.

I was late waking this morning so late having my medication, so breakfast was delayed for half an hour. I really hate having to take that medication, but nothing can be done until I can see the Dr face to face.

It was a reasonable day yesterday, the sun did come out and just around teatime it started to rain, so no watering last night. Its bright this morning, the sun keeps coming and going as the clouds drift across.

Bed linen in the washer, it will dry on the line then the ironing lady can collect it.

Today I need to apply myself to the book pillows, I know once I get the zip in ok the pink one will go together ok, its the blue one I have to take to bits, pin down the edge and then sew it together again.........I will tackle that tomorrow.

Enough chicken for supper tonight, neither of us are eating as much as we used to, so I have to get used to doing smaller portions. The rhubarb crumble went down very well and there is enough left for a couple more suppers.

DB is out in the garden before the sun gets too hot. I am expecting another plant delivery this week, after that the purse is closed. A couple of weeks ago T moved a plant that was not doing too well, I noticed yesterday it is flowering, I need to go over the whole bed with chicken manure next time the forecast is for rain. The tubs etc will get watered with miracle grow. I have a couple near the back door that are under the overhang so will slosh a couple of cans of water on them. We have almost used all the rain water, so will be back to sparse use of tap water. We cannot have a water meter as the mains supply is to both houses, the inspection chamber and mains tap are both in our garden, so we would end up paying next doors water bill as well as our own.

So supper will be chicken and salad, rhubarb crumble for dessert.

Sunday, June 6, 2021

Misty morning

Its quite misty this morning, hopefully the sun will break through although the forecast says it might rain from lunch time. If it does it will save us watering later.

I am a bit 'woolly headed' this morning, not sure why, I slept ok last night. DB said I fell asleep reading.

Have a gammon joint in the Ninja, have also prepped the veg for supper, I have a chicken crown to cook. Will nip out and pull some rhubarb for a crumble dessert.

DB has started moaning about his right knee, it is a bit red, it maybe from him spending time kneeling on Friday. Typical we are due to go away a week on Friday!!. If its still red tomorrow it will be a call to the surgery.

Not much going on right now, another quiet day, tomorrow is bed change day and I have new pillows to put on the bed., I also need to put the new bed linen through the washer so wash out and stiffening that may be in it.

So supper tonight roast crown of chicken with stuffing and veg, rhubarb crumble

It looks like being a roaster

I had an awful night last night, it was 5.30am before I closed my eyes, was awake again at 7.30 so guess a Nana nap is on the cards.

T came yesterday he planted up the plants I bought on Thursday and then weeded the front garden. We went over to B's and potted up all the plants she had bought, we managed to fill all the pots.

I was tired when I got back, I had to sit a couple of times to let my back recover and I am stiff this morning, but it will wear off.

Its a bright and quite warm morning, I guess it will get hotter as the day goes on. DB has broken out the shorts and I have a skirt on rather than my usual trousers.

I will walk the garden and check the plants we put in. I have been looking for ages for white pulmonaria, I found some yesterday on Ebay, so have sent for two, will see what they are like when they come, might split them to make 4 plants. I have also ordered a Sarococca its a shrub that flowers in the winter it has perfumed white flowers. No sure if its going in the garden or in a pot near the back door.

Corned beef and salad for supper tonight,  might not have a dessert.

The pots we planted up yesterday.

A change in the weather

Very overcast this morning, the sun broke through for an hour or so, but at lunchtime it was freezing, had to find a fleece to put on, even DB asked for his jumper

Gardener here this afternoon, split his time between us and my neighbour, He put in some plants for me and then set to and took the seedheads off the grape hyacinths and weeded to front garden. We will shortly be going over to my neighbour to pot up her urns.

I am looking at doing the front garden over next year, I need to work out what I want to go in there.

Very tired, although I seem to be sleeping ok........My UTI seems to have responded to the medication ok, we will wait and see.

Supper tonight is the usual fish and chips with ice cream for dessert.

Sun? what sun?

We are blessed with cloud this morning, I must admit I am not sorry, it got so warm yesterday afternoon.

There were only 5 of us at the chapel for coffee, there had been something on at the chapel at the weekend and a box of muffins were left over, so we had one each, neither of us wanted any lunch.

DB went out to water once it was cooler. When we went to bed it was raining, there was about a millimetre of rain in the gauge this morning, he is out in the shed just now. At some point I need to look at the rhubarb, there should be some more ready for picking.

I have decided to leave the book pillows until next week, so no rush to get them finished.......do a bit and leave a bit.

I have some new potato's to use up, so will will have ham and salad for supper, not sure about dessert.

Argghhh what a day

It was quite hot once the sun moved off the front of the house, the sitting room was quite cool so we spent the rest of the day in there.

Today is coffee morning at the little chapel. I was hoping to take 2 of the book pillows.......wrong. The first one went together no problem, the second one the pocket fabric shifted so I did not catch it in.......decided to leave for another day started on the pink one, to date I have taken the zip out twice. Very blue air, will leave them for another day.

Another hot day in store, there is a cooling breeze at the moment.....pity I have no washing to hang out.

Supper tonight will be smoked haddock, poached egg and bread and butter. Probably ice cream for dessert.

Bright and breezy

Yesterday was a bad day for us both, particularly DB, I keep telling him about doing to much in the garden.......one day he will take notice of me. We did not go next door to join in the birthday celebrations, I did nip round with a small present, 2 slices of cake arrived just as we were thinking about coffee,  we ate them with the coffee.

Much better this morning its sunny with a breeze, a load of white washing on the line, it will dry quite quickly.

I have one book pillow almost done, have to sew all round the outside and then put the zip in the pink one and sew that up. The last one can wait, unless I feel really energetic and decide to do it as well, whilst I have the thread on the machine.

Took pork and bean casserole out of the freezer, we will have it with rice, I will have to raid the fridge for a dessert, although we could have fresh fruit.
