Another week begins

We are at the start of our last week in the bungalow here. I was shattered after yesterday, sleep was still bad. I suddenly realised with have tiles on the floor in the bathroom........eekkk wet tiles and DB are not a good thing, however he has the antil slip socks, so he will have to dry his feet and put the anti slip socks on before he leaves the bathroom. I checked the soles of his slippers they are anti slip so thats ok. Phew.

We have spent part of the morning packing up my sewing room and also emptying the store cupboard, Eventually I hope to get a shelf unit in the back bedroom to take some of it.

Pork chops cooked for supper, rasps in jelly for dessert.

Up, showered, breakfast and put in a load of washing in to do whilst we were out.

Off to the bungalow via QD. Did not get all I wanted. Finished hanging up most of the clothes in the wardrobes. I carried on lining shelves and unpacked the contents of our stock up cupboard, I poured vical down the toilet to try and clear the limescale. We have very hard water and limescale is a problem.

Did nothing when we got home, supper egg and chips and finished off the jelly.

Tuesday turned out to be an interesting day. Colin came to pick up the slabs as we were having breakfast. Emails to let me know there were two deliveries, one was the rotary clothes dryer for the garden, the other sharpies to mark boxes.

Just as we wre going to have lunch Steve turned up to take the freezer over, so I left DB to sort himself out and went over to put more stuff in the house cupboards and roll up the garage door. Raced home in time for DB to go for his sieata. I made myself two rounds of toast and pork dripping, yummy!!

Wonderful English weather, we woke up to rain siling down, good job we were not moving today.

Curtain pole for the living room was due for delivery, it was our last coffee morning,  we were going on to the bungalow, so left a note on the door to deliver it next door N was going to be in all day. We got an email with permission to install a dish washer.......hooray....... I have to order it for delivery next week and M will come and plumb it in for us. I am hoping he will also put the battern up so we can mount the curtain rail in the bedroom. We will have to do without curtains for a couple of weeks whilst they are made, both windows are very deep, the bungalow was built in the 60's when the fashion was for large windows.

The cleaner is sorted, 11th March she starts. We stayed on till 4pm, no gardener, so I will have to put a card in the local shop.

D kindly came round and took down the lantern, so at least sell it now.

Coffee morning was quite emotional, B thanked us for our support during the 9 years we have been here. I pointed out that he too had been there for us. The cake went down very well. B had an accident whilst down in Devon, he managed to badly damage 3 fingers, he has a metal pin in one finger.

So, Thursday ended with DB having a vertigo attack, I laid the law down and Friday we stayed at home. We have had several bad nights, drinking tea at heavens know what time.

I did manage to pack some more stuff and stick labels on the boxes. At least things will end up in the right place. No more packing, tomorrow we take a few more boxes and empty the kitchen freezer and put in the garage freezer. I need a quick trip to Boyes for some bits on the way back tomorrow, home on Sunday and then a couple of days of chaos!!!

Time marches on

We sign for the new bungalow on Thursday, so watch this space. We have a new trolly, we will use the old one here and use the new one to take boxes etc inside at the bungalow. I have started to pack up the sewing room. I am planning on an hour in the morning and the same whilst OH is having his siesta. I really did not appreciate how much there is in that room, one of the first things to get packed will be the machine and its arm. That will clear the big table and I can put things on there. and sort  and fold them before putting them in a box. I also need to go up into the loft and fetch down whats up there.

Sunday we had our usual breakfast and a shower, I put the towels in the washer and put them out on the line. Fetched them in and finished them off in the dryer. I cooked a pork joint on Saturday, so sliced it once it was cold. Enough meat for Sunday supper and 5 more meals plus filling for lunchtime sarnies. We had some more of the crumble I baked on Saturday for dessert. I found some frozen raspberries in the outside freexer, so rasps in jelly for later in the week. The outside freezer is emptying well, 3 drawers empty, hopefully will get the rest in the kitchen freezer during the week. I need to get in the cupboard in the sewing room, there is glass ware up there.

Monday bright sunny morning, sheets in the washer, Cleaner here her last shift with furniture in, she is coming after we move to do a thorough clean.

Trip to Cropston to get our dental plates cleaned and serviced, next appointment is August.

It did not stop to rain on the way there and back, thankfully it cleared up after lunch.

So - we have the keys, trouble was the garage keys did not fit.....then. into the bungalow, it now becomes obvious that the previous tenant was not good at housekeeping, the only decent room was the bathroom. Cobwebs everywhere, skirtings looked as if they had not been touched for years, the kitchen drawers - horrendous. I set to and cleaned the top narrow drawer to put the cutlery etc in we brought from home.

The sitting room curtains from here are too short, so I will be selling them and getting new ones made. The colour pallette is a bit off, brown carpet and grey walls, but never mind, it can be put up with. The curtains in the bedroom will go in the bedroom there. Wardrobes are massive and have cupboards on top, the old airing cupboard has been shelved which will do fine for sheets and towels. The garden needs some work doing on it, but we will get to that.  We are going over tomorrow with the freezer from the shed and DB's stuff from the shed. DD2 is coming over to clean, so thats ok, it will soon be like a new pin, so to speak.

I am exhausted, we  have been over at the new place, M from next door moved a load of stuff from the shed, which is now in the garage. The freezer is still in the shed, could not find the sack barrow when we went round to look for it. Will have to try and get it over during the week.

DD2 arrived with bucket  mop etc, after a tour she started in the bedrooms, she came through with the ceiling brush to show me, we had to peel the cobwebs off they were so thick. so bedrooms done skirting boards etc, carpet hoovered, windows cleaned. She then tackled the bathroom, managed to half drown herself when she pulled the cord to put the shower on, it had been left in the 'on' position on the shower itself. Toilet needs a bit of a clean, its one that closes itself!! needs some very active scrubbing to get rid of the limescale. I will take the stuff with me when we go on monday and give it a good scrub. The landlord had been in and fixed the door handle from the sitting room into the hall and also taken the two bags of rubbish away.

I cleaned out more of the drawers in the kitchen and lined them, saucepans and the remoska in one, with room for the steamer  and small saucepan, the frying pans will have to go in the bottom one.

I managed to open the rollerdoor to the garage with the control, could not get the wretched thing to close, then realised DB had left an old dustbin which was stopping it from coming down!!!!

We went to C & C for scrambled eggs on toast on the way home, DB has gone for his siesta, I am going to sit with my feet up for a couple of hours. Need to order the curtains, good job I checked the measure ments were wrong. The curtains we have in our bedroom here will not fit the bedroom,  over there so thats fine. a week on Monday they start packing and loading.........

Still waiting

We were still,in limbo but no news is good news. Sunday we went into town for carvery lunch at The Harboro, excellent as usual. I am very tired, but what's new!! We took pots for the dump at QD and then dropped off more stuff at the charity shop.

We had a 'light supper' DB had cream cheese and cucumber rolls. I decided to have a mashed banana with demerara sugar and a drop of cream..........

TV was good for a change, Call the Midwife, Antiques Road show and Murder in Paradise, it was time for bed when they finished.

Monday was chew your nails day, nothing from the agents re the bungalow.

Tuesday I had an appointment at the hospital to test my pacemeker, it looks like they will change it late this year, it still has 18 month in the battery, but they aim to do it well before that.

As I was driving home my phone rang, checked when I got home, everything is sorted and after several weeks in suspension we are signing the agreement on 15th......and moving in on 27th. The gap is to give us time to move some stuff over ourselves, nothing heavy, and time to arrange for the TV ariel etc to be sorted. I also want to line the cupboard shelves with paper to keep them clean. I am so releaved, it has been almost 4 weeks of hell!! Perhaps I can sleep better now......... so from now on a great deal of sorting will be going on.

We went to the coffee morning, we broke the news that we are moving at the end of this month.  I dropped DB at home and I carried on into Melton to have lunch with my daughter and collect a couple of cases to pack clothes in.

We did not do much Thursday.........I am exhausted after all the goings on.

Friday we had an appointment to get our hearing aids checked, went to Morrison for a small shop and then called at C & C for scrambled eggs on toast and a cuppa.........The tenant was due to move out, the agent told me that she would be going to take a meter reading, we will also take one when we go on Thursday to collect the keys. I cleared up the questions that DB had about the lease.......I also got Plusnet to take over the broadband etc, we saved almost £200 on what we would have had to pay if we had gone with Virgin Media, they are not my favourite people and I said I would never go with them again, after they made us pay a huge fee for finishing the agreement early. It was complicated. After toing and froing for months I paid it, otherwise I would have had a black mark on my prestine credit score. It was very unfair.

Load of laundry put in to wash overnight on cheap electricity, its bed change next week, so more laundry to do on Monday.

action stations

Sunday, we had our usual brekkie, up and showered. Veggies prepped for supper, apple and backberry crumble made for dessert.

DB has started clearing out, he has filled the shredder I do not know how many times. M cleaned all the cars and then came round and he has helped DB sort out and pack up everything to go from the shed, so thats done. I have to check that the lawn mower is working ok, I think its been in the shed for about 4 years since Matt started to do the gress for us.

I had an email from the agents to say the landlord was happy for us to put up curtain rails and a satallite dish, he just asked that we did not take the blinds down.

I was up early Monday, they were coming to collect the car to look at the computer screen which looked like a tartan rug when the ignition was turned on. Car was collected........new computer screen was needed, also the washer for the windscreen had a problem and one of the back tyres was rubbing.

Tuesday evening the car was returned, new screen, it was replaced under the guarantee, but I had to pay for the other bits. I was staggered when I found out the new screen for the computer was £1500+, thank heavens I did not have to pay for it, that would have put a real dent in our bank account.

I have spent a vast amount of time getting our financial arrangements through to an agency who check everything except your inside leg measurement. Thursday I had enough and phoned the agents I was so frustrated and more than a little angry. Eventually we ended up going into Melton to the agents and they sent everything through. We will not get the keys until the 16th, so it will be at least 26th before we move. I think I will be emotionally scarred once it's all over. We never had all this faff before.

I shrieked with exasperation, the agency emailed Friday, they wanted a copy of DB's passport. The Estate Agents have everything, I rang and asked if they had a copy, I knew they had, they looked and found it. I got them to send it over. I hope that is the last thing they need and everything is sorted by Monday!!!

Gardener came and helped sort out behind the shed. He also cut down the compassion rose and potted it up. We will need him another couple of times to finish sorting the garden.

I have started to sort out the sewing room, have a plastic crate with wadding and some other quilting fabric to go down to Dorset when we go in April, believe me I will need a break when all this is over. I sorted out a whole lot of stuff that had been filed some from 2015!! and I found the missing tenency agreement we were looking for!! A lot of the papaer work will be going into the shredder, anything that is pertinent has been re-filed in a new  file folder.

I owe some of you an apology, I am not sure how but I managed to delete your comments, I am so sorry, no idea what I did......I will try not to do it again.
