Torrential rain

We had heavy rain yesterday morning, it cleared and it was a nice afternoon, we now have the rain back again, worse than ever.....the road out of the village will flood, it always does, just hope it goes down before tomorrow, we have to go out in the morning.

Veggies prepped for supper, I need to try and finish the book cushion to take tomorrow to show B. Its her birthday and we are calling in to see her on the way home from Hospital, DB has his pre op assessment for his cataract.

At the moment DB is sorting through paper work, I want to get rid of the cupboard we keep them in, some will get shredded the rest will go in a box in the attic.

Supper is roast chicken and veggies, will make a fruit jelly for dessert.

Now rain

yesterday we had rain on and off, it looks as if it has rained all night as well.

We cleared 'B's garden, a lot of the pots have to be emptied, so the plants will go in the bin and the compost on the front garden. I dug out the rose and also two clumps of alstromeria. The rose had been allowed to just go, so its been partially cut back. its in water until Monday, it will go in the garden then. If it needs it I can cut it back to a bud in the spring. By the time we had finished I was exhausted. The patio looks like a jumble sale.

Did not sleep well, just could not  get off, last looked at the clock at 3am.

Beef and chicken out of the freezer to cook once its defrosted, chicken for tomorrow.

I have some corned beef left, so will either do hash or stovies for supper tonight.

10.15am Just  back from the Farmers Market, it is raining very heavily and the roads just outside the village are starting to flood, Coats etc drenched just coming from the car into the house!! Glad we moved the plants etc yesterday.........

The wild wind

is blowing a hoolie, we have very grey skies, its hardly light, hope it brightens up a bit.

Gardener is due this afternoon, we are going to clear the garden stuff from B's garden and the plants. I spoke to her on the phone yesterday, she sounded very bright and cheerful. We are going in to see her on Monday.

My DGS is coming this morning to shift the TV, the first bit towards getting the bedroom decorated and turned round. The second carpet chap came yesterday, half what the other chap quoted and his chaps can move the bed to fit the carpet, we just have to strip it and take the mattress off. I have to let him know two weeks before we need the carpet and he will order it. I am also going to order the curtains from Dunelm, will wait and see if they are in the sale after Christmas.

Nothing special to do this morning, need to collect up the snowflakes from the window cill and put them in their sets. Plans have had to change, 'B' changed her mind as to who was going to get the set she had ordered.

Supper is the Friday night 'special' fish and chips, no dessert.

grey skies

'B's move went well, she left just after lunch and her son has sent a message this morning to say they managed to get most of her stuff unpacked yesterday. I have contacted the trustee of the little chapel, he has a young family who have just moved into a house, so he will see what is suitable for them, the rest will go to the charity he supports.

I have load of white washing out, the way its blowing it should be dry, the clouds are threatening so will have to go and collect it in.

Gammon joint cooked and lentil soup made from the stock, we will have it for lunch with some soup, probably enough for tomorrow too.

DB is 'winterising' his green house. I have supplied him with an extending curtain pole so he can fit a piece of fleece across the door. It keeps him out of mischief.

Yesterday I soaked all the snowflakes, unfortunately the mat I made disintegrated, its the second time that has happened, so have deleted the design so I do not make it again.

So gammon, mash, peas and cheese sauce for supper tonight. No dessert. we have been having a few nuts with some dried fruit instead of a dessert.

A sad day

our neighbour and friend moves today into sheltered accommodation in the town, the end of an era. We will miss her and I know she will miss us going in to see her. Its her birthday on Monday so we will be in to see her then. DB has an appointment for his pre op at the local hospital, two birds with one stone.

Bright morning, but a blustery wind, expect DB will be out in the garden. I have cut out the book pillow and also done the embroidered pocket, waiting for the zip and cushion inner to come.

Need to put a loaf on will have to sort out something for supper as well, we had mince last night.

Things to do

Wall paper for the bedroom is being delivered today, I need to find somewhere to store it. Also have the chap coming to measure the bedroom and also the loo, need an off cut of something for the floor. I also want to ask him about the kitchen floor.

The cards were done yesterday.

Just noticed this one has a ruck in it, hey ho, its all stuck now so it will have to stay.

One is for tomorrow, the other for her birthday. She moves tomorrow. I was over yesterday afternoon, the bungalow is very bare, she just has what she needs to eat etc left. Her DIL is coming with her son tomorrow and will stay with her whilst A goes with the removal men, he needs to put her bed up so it can be made. We will miss here, I have been looking out for her ever since her husband died, making sure she is safe, we had to communicate with waves and through the glass whilst lock down was on. Not an easy time for her. We will nip in and see her on Monday, DB has a pre op assessment at our local hospital for his cataract surgery next month.

I have a book pillow to do, have cut out the fleece, need to embroider the pocket, might get that done tomorrow. Have ordered an inner from Dunelm. I found a rather nice pair of curtains on their site yesterday, need to see if they will fit the window,

Rather than plain green they are white with varied green botanical print, they are also black out curtains.

DB has a couple of jobs to do in the garden, I will set up the machine to embroider the pocket for the book pillow. I can do that whilst I am waiting for the cushion inner to come.

Supper tonight, mince and dough balls with veg, will finish up the crumble.

Monday again

we have very bright sun, but it has been cold. DB will be going out to the greenhouse and getting the fleece ready to put over the plants at night.

Cleaner is due this morning and the chap to move the TV this afternoon. The carpet chap is coming tomorrow to measure the bedroom for the carpet. I need to look at the samples again, the ones I brought are not quite right. they are a bit too grey.

Both embroideries finished, just have to mount them in the cards, this always proves to be a bit of a problem for me, I use double sided narrow sticky tape. I found using glue made the cards buckle even though I dried them with a weight on top. I then need to make the book pillow B asked for.

I need to sort out something for supper, there is enough crumble for today and maybe tomorrow.

Sunday, October 24, 2021

My Grandmother

will be turning in her grave..... I have a load of washing in, she was a great believer in Sunday being a day of rest, mind you she also rested Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday!!

Veg prepped for supper and an apple crumble in the oven for dessert.

Hope the washing will dry outside, I am going to start embroidering the two cards today, will try and get the one design finished today. The second one will not take as long to do, its much simpler.

Tomorrow the chap is coming to move the TV. Tuesday the carpet chap is coming to measure the carpet, Wednesday B moves, so I will do what I can. Its her birthday a week tomorrow, so we have to be in Melton for something else so will call in and see her. I also need to put petrol in the car, have to keep it filled up.

So supper, roast pork and veggies, apple crumble for supper.

Jabbed

After yesterday mornings debacle, we did get jabbed. I got an email saying that the local Round table had organised a 3 hour session at the school where we had our original jobs. We travelled into town, joined the queue and got jabbed.

This morning DB had an appointment at our GP's surgery for the flu jab, the nurse told him we were not the only ones to fall foul of the closed location. There were quite a few other people complained as well as us.

We went on the the farmers market, picked up a few bits of veg and some fruit and came home.

B's son and his wife are there this morning, packing up more bits, they are going over to the flat after lunch to shampoo the carpets, hang curtains and put some stuff away in the cupboards. I will go over when they have gone. I have a pair of trousers to hem up for B, want to get them done and take them back.

All day breakfast for supper tonight, a few strawberries for dessert.

Not a happy bunny

To put it mildly, in actual fact I am b****y annoyed. This morning we travelled 36 mile round trip to get our booster, only to find the place closed. There were two other people there who had also travelled from the next village......we called at the surgery on the way home......they had sent us there.....DB spoke to the receptionist, f it had been me there would have been no roof left on the surgery!!

It was sunny first thing, but the sky is very grey looking right now, we saw a rainbow on the way home.

I need to start some embroidery this afternoon, B moves in 5 days time and it is her birthday a week on Monday, I also have a pair of trousers to turn up for her, did one pair yesterday. Its a job I hate. Her DIL had used that iron on tape to turn then up, had a real job pulling the hems apart.

Gardener here this afternoon, I am going to get him to weed and then put the strulch down. I have some plants to go in as well.

Supper is fish and chips.

After the wind

and torrential rain we have sun this morning. Hope it stays fine I have a load of laundry to go out.

I have not been able to start the cards have had to send for more thread and two more thread boxes, I will soon have all the threads in the warehouse!!

DB complained he had a cold last night, sore head and throat......right boy, test in the morning.....strange this morning he just has a headache....sorry you are still having a test!! I will be seriously displeased if he has covid!!

We went round to the coffee morning to find the doors locked.....so came home.

My new printer came yesterday afternoon, have got it half set up will have to finish doing it later, I have to sort out the supper.

So braised beef, potato, carrots and brussels for supper, we have some cake we were given, will have a small slice of that for dessert.

Wednesday, October 20, 2021

What time is it?

Oh 9.17 am, I thought it was night, the sky is really black. pouring with rain and we are forecast thunderstorms later......bliss - not.

Coffee at the little chapel, we will go round in the car, not sure if anyone else will turn up, we will see.

Yesterday I finally lost it with the printer we have, it has always been a pain, printing when it felt like it. yesterday I changed the ink as it was not printing properly, now it will not print at all, so watch the window - out it goes. Have ordered a different one, its coming later today. I will free cycle the old one, let someone else have the problem.

My neighbour goes this morning to sign for her new flat, a week today she will move, we will miss her very much. I promised her son in South Africa I would look out for her after her husband died and I have done that to the best of my ability.

Mac and cheese for supper tonight with salad. We have finished the strawberries so will not do a dessert.

Another grey day

Oh how I hate this weather, makes me feel grey as well.

Chiropodist had been so we now have nice feet, till the next time.

DB will be slobbing around, unable to go into the garden, I have some sewing to do and also a couple of cards to make. I need to speak to Sue and send Little Miss's quilt off to be done.

Towels in the dryer, its too horrible to put them out.

Yesterday afternoon I managed to collect my bedside lamp with a new fitting, call and make arrangements for two carpet shops to come and measure; go to Morrison before I collected DB, we then went to the Age Concern shop and dropped off more books. They have also said they will take my quilting books I no longer use. I have tried selling them but got no where, when I think about it, we have spent hundreds of pounds on books. I am keeping a couple of books, one is the one my Amish friend notated for me, A collection of quilts, now in the museum in New York, that were made by her family. It is a very interesting story. The other is a book by Eleanor Burns containing instructions for a quilt she made on a TV programme about 13 years ago.

Supper tonight is sausage mash and beans, we will have some of the strawberries we got at the weekend with a tiny blob of ice cream.

Monday, October 18, 2021

Another Monday

sheets etc in the washer, there is quite a breeze blowing so hopefully they will dry. Cleaner will help me remake the bed. Need to put a laof on whilst we are out this afternoon.

The sky is just beginning to lighten up a bit, sun trying to come through.

My neighbour who is moving is trying to do her bit of the packing. Her son and his wife were there on Saturday and have packed a lot up, more to do.

Hopefully I will get into the garden sometime this week and finish clearing the patio, the gardener will be here on Friday so he can move the heavy pots.

Supper tonight will be egg, wedges and beans.

Sunday, October 17, 2021

Yuk.... dull

and dank this morning, have the light on in the sitting room.

I had a long chat with B's son yesterday, we have sorted out what we will take of his Mums so it does not get binned by the workmen when they go in and decorate the place and fit a new kitchen. There will be a lot of stuff to get rid of that is not able to go to the new place, it is a one bedroomed flat with a very small kitchen, so not a lot of her kitchen stuff will be able to go.

The though of me having to do something similar gives me nightmares, I am going to have to start clearing stuff myself. Its my sewing room which is going to prove to be the worst. Thinking about it gives me a headache!!

Veggies prepped for supper. I need to get my head round two cards, one for a new home and the other for B's 92nd birthday on all souls day. I will also have to rethink her Christmas present.

The bulbs I have been waiting for arrived yesterday, so we can at last plant up the big pots for the spring; clear the patio and jet wash it. Plant pots needs washing and stacking at the back of the shed. The fountain needs emptied, stones washed and stored away. We also need to go through the dozens of plant pots we have and chuck out any that are past their  best.

DB has not been able to get into the garden since we got back, so he is spending more time on his lap top. His memory is not getting any better.......have to bite my tongue at times. Hey ho, time to go.

Sad but happy

The neighbour we have looked for ever since her husband died 4 years ago has decided that she needs more care and security then she has in her bungalow, so is moving into sheltered accommodation in our local town. To be honest it is a welcome decision. Both her children and us were concerned about her especially after she fell recently. Two of her  children  live abroad and her youngest son an hour away, so DB and I were the first port of call in an emergency. I also went over most days to check she was ok.

It is sad, we will miss her, but it is the right thing for her to do. She was bothered about no one going to see her, I assured her that only severe illness or death would stop us form going in to see her. I will probably go when DB goes to The Evergreens, she is only just down the road.

Laundry caught up, we went to the farmers market for fresh veg. I have decided that I need to alter my way of shopping, supermarket veg is not good, so in future we will get our veg from the market. I am also going to have a weekly order delivered from either Morrison or Sainsbury.

I still have some bits to put away and the suitcases to slide under the bed. I could do with a valance that goes round the bed and hides whats underneath. Might think about it when we have the room decorated.

So mince and tatties with cabbage and carrots, I have also cooked a crumble from apples that have fallen from the tree and some blackberries.

Home again

We had a bad journey back, it took us 4 hours to get home. Lots of traffic.

We enjoyed the time away, different in that we stayed mostly local apart from our visit to Blickling on Tuesday. Very few photos taken. We were lucky with the weather, we just had a shower on the way home today. It has been quite windy though.

Yesterday we spent in Sheringham. We went to Morrison for  a fish and chip supper - 2 for 1. not bad, fish was very nice as usual. We then had a hunt for the petrol station to fill up before we set off for home.

Cases unpacked, clothes washed and in the dryer, everything put away

Nice guest house, lovely and clean and although it was a continental breakfast there was plenty to eat.

Ding supper tonight. I have taken out a kilo of mince to make into mince with tatties and bol sauce. That will keep me out of mischief tomorrow.

I now have to settle down and get some cards done and some presents sorted.

Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Wednesday

Wells next the Sea today, park overlooking the harbour. We decided to have lunch, sausage and chips. We left just after 3 pm. I got sandwiches and pork pie for supper.

Tomorrow is our last day before we travel home.

Tuesday, October 12, 2021

Tuesday

Today we went to Blickling House, reputed to Be the birth place of Anne Boleyn. Very large house undergoing some restoration. We had a nice meal in the cafe. Called at an artisan village on the way back to our B & B.

Sandwiches and yogurt for supper. Tomorrow we plan to have a stroll round the local market.

Yesterday was fine, today we have had several heavy rain showers.

Monday, October 11, 2021

Monday

After a slow start we left home just after 12.30. Good journey, we arrived slightly ahead of time. Nice quiet ground floor room. Bed is comfortable, the shower room nicely fitted. It's a shame that the sealant is badly marked with mould.

Today we went down into the town and parked overlooking the sea. I took a picnic with us. DB had a bit of a walk round. I sat and read.

We came back and had a siesta. A cup of cappachino and then we went into Cromer. Morrison's cafe was open, so we ordered a hot meal. DB had steak pie, I had Mac and cheese there was an offer. After 3pm you got  two for the price of one. Back at our accomodation we spoke to a couple who were just going out for a meal. They are travelling on tomorrow.

We have plans to goto an artisan village to have a look round. Wednesday there is a market which we will have a look at.

We did have a bit of a panic tonight when DB could not find his wallet. After turning the car upside down he found it on the floor. Shortened my life by a few minutes at least!!

Saturday, October 9, 2021

A bright sunny morning

We decided that today was Sunday as we would have to be up and at 'em tomorrow. So breakfast in bed, managed washed and dressed just after 9.30.

I have been busy pulling the last bits together, except those that have to wait till tomorrow. DB's case is packed, just the few last bits to go in mine in the morning. We are having a late, 'all day breakfast' before we set off. Will pack rolls etc for tomorrow nights supper.

DB is out in the garden making sure everything is ok. I need to nip over and see our neighbour.......her son and his wife came yesterday and took her out, want to see how they got on.

I managed to do all 6 of the snowflakes yesterday, so along with all the others I need now to soak  off the stabilizer and dry them before they get a warm press to flatten them. 6 pressies sorted.

Medication is working, if I drink much more water I think my internal organs will float. Conscious of the fact that drinking too much water can be as bad, if not worse, than not drinking enough!!

Ding supper tonight, just for a change, need to see what DB wants. I might have sweet and sour pork or possibly curry.

Friday, October 8, 2021

Its warmer

as the weather forecast said it would be. I pushed the quilt down last night was too hot.

Medication arrived just after 4pm yesterday, so I managed to get 2 lots taken, feeling better this morning.

A clearing up day, I started on the 6 ornaments yesterday want to to get them finished before we go away, case needs checking and I need to put out my clothes for Sunday. Will put a wash in tomorrow night and dry them in the dryer before we go on Sunday.

There is a Morrison order coming this afternoon with fruit etc for us to take with us. I must remember to put the cool box on to ice down overnight tomorrow.

Gardener here this afternoon, weeding needs doing and also strulch put down. I need to harden off some plants ready to be planted when we get back, I got a cheap load of bedding plants.

Supper tonight is the usual fish and chips, will also finish off the jelly thats left.

Thursday, October 7, 2021

One of those days

Fine morning, sun out but the breeze is cool.

Had to ring the GP first thing my usual problem has reared its head again, so anti b's needed.

Then the emergency telephone kept telling me the line was down...... grrr they have replaced the pole in the street as the telephone wires were not high enough. I had to go over to my neighbour and reassured her everything was ok.

I had a problem trying to book a room before and after the retreat in April, the girl got it round her neck, have just spoken to the reception and they have sorted it out.

DB has been dittering in the garden, I have been setting the machine up to stitch 6 snowflakes one after the other in the biggest hoop I have. Fingers crossed it goes ok.

Supper is roast pork steaks, roast spuds, brussels and carrot, more of the raspberry jelly for dessert.

Wednesday, October 6, 2021

Wednesday

A bright morning, but a bit chilly. I had to give in yesterday and put the heat on, its on very low, but the bungalow does feel warmer.

I have a dilemma, Amazon are due to deliver to me this morning, I have to give them a password, which at the moment has not come through, and its coffee morning. Think I will let DB go first and come home so I can go later. If the parcel does come before 10.30 no problem. Its a new GPS which has a camera in it. I piece of film I saw on TV the other night shook me rigid......it was film from a following drivers GPS that cleared up how the accident happened.

I have finished the snowflakes and also a lace mat, have to soak and dry them now and decide how I am going to present them, they are for Christmas presents.

DB was planting out onions and garlic, he says he is up to date with everything in the garden, so he is just dittering about out there. He opens the greenhouse each morning and closes it before it gets dark.

I have beef casserole to do for supper tonight, will have potato, cabbage and carrots with it. The raspberry jelly for dessert.

Tuesday, October 5, 2021

Rain again

It has rained again last night, I put a load of laundry in the washer overnight, its ready to go out, forecast is for rain at lunchtime, want to give it a fighting chance of drying.

I have finished the snowflakes and also the angel wings, just have to soak the wss off, dry them and then lightly press. Will put them in an envelope until I need them later. Next thing is a doily I found a pattern for yesterday.

Neighbours daughter went off back to Spain yesterday, I will nip in and see her when I go up for the TV choice etc. She will miss her. If they lift the embargo her son and his wife may well come over from South Africa, she has not seen them for more than 2 years, they had booked to come over last year when the pandemic broke.

DB has planted his onions and garlic. Last years garlic crop was pathetic, hope thhis year is a bit better.

Need to get beef out of the freezer for a casserole, also want to make a raspberry jelly, it will more or less last us until we go away.

Sun keeps coming and going......it had  better stay dry till my washing is dry, do not want to use the dryer.

Supper tonight egg, beans and wedges, some of the jelly for dessert.

Snow flakes, I need to get some very narrow ribbon to hang them up.

Monday, October 4, 2021

Bright morning

Still on the chilly side but the wind seems to have died back a bit. Laundry in the washer, it should dry on the line.

Our bedroom seems enormous now the wardrobe has gone, much more room to get round the bed. Need to speak to the decorator.

I have finished the snowflakes, on the a set of angel wings this morning once I have sorted the lettering out. Might speed the machine up a bit, they are going to take an hour at the present speed setting.

I have gone out on a limb and signed up for an embroidery retreat in April. I was not able to go before as I was not prepared for DB to stay on his own for 2 nights, however they are allowing husbands/partners to go this time, so thats got to be good, there will be others going so he will have someone to talk to.

Plenty of chicken left for supper tonight, not much salad stuff, will do a jacket potato each, no dessert.

Sunday, October 3, 2021

Removal day

I have had the big pine wardrobe on several different selling sites to try and sell it. It has just been collected this afternoon, so our bedroom looks so much bigger, I have moved a cupboard into its place temporarily.

DB out in the garden this morning, we still have quite a bit to do out there, pots to plant up. If we get a decent day next week I will plant the tulips, waiting for crocus and daffs to come.

Crown breast of chicken cooking for supper, roasted veg to go with it. No dessert, we can have fruit later.

Saturday, October 2, 2021

A Change in the weather

Yesterday it was cold but sunny, it did warm up a bit after lunch, but soon got cold again, fleece throws. At the ready.

I finished 4 more snow flakes, will not get any done today. We have just been to get fresh fruit to last us through to our order coming on Friday. DB has a hospital appointment this afternoon to see about getting his second cateract done.

Its a grey morning according to DB we are to get heavy rain.......still it saves me watering the garden, believe me it needs it, only the top 3 inches have benefitted from the rain so far.

T planted the 3 clematis yesterday, two either side on the outside of the arch and the one in the middle on the inside. He ut the sod of grass back to protect the roots.

Yesterday the ladies announced the next embroidery retreat 1 - 3rd of April, I was the first to sign up. I have not gone before because I could not leave DB, however this time they have allowed for husbands or partners to go as well.........so here's to learning much more about my Stellaire and also some fun. Its not all work!!

All day breakfast this morning, need to take the chicken out of the freezer for tomorrow, no dessert as yet.

Friday, October 1, 2021

Is that sun I see??

Yes it is. We did have rain over night, but it is sunny now. I have laundry in the washer, hope to get it dry outside.

I had a funny message yesterday from DD1 saying they were safe? Turns out they are on Crete, the island that had an earthquake recently. I did not know they were away!! Its not the first time there has been an earthquake whilst they were away. I cannot remember where they were but there was a massive earth quake SIL cut his feet on the glass from the window when he got out of bed. They sent us a picture of their room, half of it was missing!! Very close shave there!!

I have changed my mind about the number of snowflake sets, I found a really nice FSL doily yesterday so have down loaded the design my neighbours DIL loves anything like that.

Gardener due this afternoon, plenty for him to do, I have two clematis being delivered this morning for the new arch, so they can go in along with one I have grown from a cutting. There is weeding and cutting back to do as well.

Fish, chips and peas for supper, I have some rice pudding left so that dessert sorted.
