So they were wrong

by mid morning the sun was blasting down, hardly a cloud in the sky.

DB spent an hour in the garden in the morning and we were both out with the gardener. The big border has been weeded and some more plants put in. I have several plants in the grow house which need sorting ready to go in next week. We will be sorting out the pots to plant up next week as well, I am using a mix of compost and feed. I took some cuttings from a neighbours snowball hydranga last week, left them in water on the kitchen window cill, two of them had started to put roots out, so they have been potted up, put in a poly bag and are in the shade will leave them about a month, make sure they are showing signs of growth before they get potted on.

We are nipping into town this morning, I need some ericacious feed for some of the plants, I did the two azalea yesterday but need some for the other lime hating plants we have. Our soil is heavy clay, you could make dinner plates with it. The herbaceous border had a layer of strulch on it, It does keep the weeds and also the slugs and snails off the plants, the delphiniums and lupins are going great guns.

The slug pellets we used to use have now been banned, we will have to find something else to  keep the slugs etc off the veggies.

Tonights supper is ADB, need to get the gammon steaks out of the freezer. I cooked some rhubarb yesterday we will finish it off tonight for dessert.

No sun today

Very low cloud, no rain forecast. Gardener here this afternoon, have to sort out what I want him to do. We are forecast sun for tomorrow and decent weather for the weekend. I need to have a sortie to the discount shop and see if I can get plant food for the ericacious plants we have. They could all do with a little TLC.

Yesterdays shop and visit went off well, we called at the garden centre on the way home to order compost and potting grit, to be delivered. At 6pm the bell rang it was Colin with the compost. Last job of the day. He stayed and chatted for a while, after admiring the back garden and giving me some advice about a couple of plants I was concerned about.

We watched Carol Klien last night, she sure gets through some work, an hour programme was full of interest and featured some plants I had not seen before. She has a much bigger garden than we have.

I guess DB will be working in the greenhouse the greenhouse, I have some sewing I want to do. I need to cut a long bias strip for binding and a couple of strips for handles.

I am getting a bit fed up of DB using my computer table to stick his stuff on, he has a table at the side of his chair. I am going to have a look in the Air Ambulance shop and see if I can find a table to put at the side of the settee for my stuff, and put the computer table away when I have finished using the laptop.

Fish and chips as usual tonight.

Tulips are all out now, the rest of the garden is very green, but will soon be bursting with colour. The apple tree is in full bloom, hope we do not get a frost before the flowers set.

Shopping and visiting

This morning we went to Aldi, I needed to top up on some of the things we get from there. The shelves were well filled and there was no embargo on sunflower oil. I was good and only bought one bottle. I use it for frying and also in my HM bread, a bottle lasts me ages. So I managed to spend £72, but it will be at least 2 weeks before we have to shop again.

We then went over to see B. I had collected cake and butter for her, so delivered them and spent 3/4 of an hour with her before heading for the plant nursery and home. I needed 4 bags of compost and one of potting grit, it will be delivered tomorrow, just in time for the gardener!! We stopped and had a cup of tea and half a tea cake each. Home James and it was unpack the bags and find somewhere to put it all. Both fridge and the 2 freezers are full now.

DB has gone for his siesta, I am about to put my feet up for half an hour befor I start the supper.

Bacon and onion frtttata with salad tonigjt.

Dull and brrrr

We seem to be sitting under a cloud, its very dull although there is no rain forecast, last of the washing in the machine, it all starts again next week.

I overslept this morning, so a bit slow getting going DB brought  me my breakfast......

No much spoiling today, I need to sort out my shopping list, I also need to sort out an envelope for some stuff to go back to the council, the days of them putting a stamped addressed envelope in for replies are long gone.

I discovered yesterday that I can withdraw money from our new bank account from our local post office, so that will save me a visit into town. I looked it up on the internet.

DB will be out to contine his asssult on the rubbish in the shed shortly. I think the laundry will be going into the dryer.

Supper tonight, chicken and rice, no dessert.

Frost???

DB had a mini meltdown last night when the forecast predicted a frost, thankfully we did not but its still very cold.

I have a coloured wash on, I ended up having to use the dryer for about half an hour yesterday, it started to rain, although it did not last, it was a hurried visit out to get the sheets etc in.

The chaps came from the charity shop, so I now have more room in my sewing room. I cut out a bag yesterday, have had to send for some stabilizer, should come today, so I can have a bash at it, its a small bucket bag. I am swithering between lace book marks and key rings for the ladies in the coffee meeting, I usually give them a small present at Christmas, trying to get ahead of myself just now.

I need to make an appointment to get my hair cut, and also need to ring B and arrange to go and see her Thursday morning, have a couple of jobs to do in town at the same time and also need a small top up shop.

DB tells me he is clearing out stuff from the shed yet again, I have to admit it is a bit untidy and gets worse if its not kept on top of.

Mince and dough balls tonight for supper, no dessert, we finished the crumble last night.

Wash day

Bed stripped and its in the washer, fine morning but again brrr, the sun keeps trying to break through, but its having a bit of a job!! At least the sheets should dry on the line.

Cleaner here this morning, so she will help me remake the bed, I have a new way to try and get the duvet cover on, will see is it works.

No real plans, I need to work out how much money I need to draw for next month, we are going into town on Thursday for some bits of shopping, go to the bank and also see B. Its 3 weeks since we were last there. He son from SA comes next week, so will have to see if we can get in to see him whilst he is here.

The two sets of drawers are boing collected this morning, I arranged with the Air Ambulance charity shop that they collect them for the shop.

I finished a set of small Christmas baubles yesterday so today may be a soaking day, I also need to soak off the backing from the squares for the runner and see how I can put them together, quite a bit of hand sewing I think

DB will be out in the garden, he was out for an hour or so yesterday, this is the time of year when the work ramp up, then it will die down a bit for a couple of months apart from keep the veg weeded and the tomato's fed.

I have a bag pattern I want to try out so a rummage in the fabric box is in order. Little Miss's quilt is ready to go to be quilted, so I need to arrange to go and see the quilter, she is only quilting for people she knows now, she is getting older. It comes to us all in time!!! I also need to tidy up the tables in the sewing room, stuff just got dumped when we came back from the retreat.

So tonight is egg and chips, I made a rhubarb crumble yesterday so we will finish it today

Its Sunday

Bright sun but still very brrr first thing and after about 3pm. Our old neighbours son came and collected his tomato's and also took some rhubarb. He was very complementary about the garden, especially the very deep red tulips in one of the containers. We have cabbage ready as well, last year I bought a large net tunnel, the cabbage have been under it and thankfully no butterflies have meant we have no damage on them.

We bought plants at the nursery yesterday morning, including sweet peas, DB got summer leeks and some mixed lettuce. Mine were bedding plants for the pots, they will be in the green house for at least another 6 weeks, till the chance of a frost has passed.

I need to prep the veg for supper, roast pork with veggies, If I can I want to spend a bit of time outside sorting through the pots and seeing what can go. I plan to photograph the pots and offer them as a job lot for free, there are several plastic urns as well which can go. I am mostly using either stone or very large plastic tubs.

Its almost time for tiffin, so better go and put the kettle on.
