Calm before the storm???

A lovely day, sunny but there is a breeze. It was very cold overnight, so the heating came on briefly this morning.

My store cupboards are looking sadly empty, I need to do both a cupboard and freezer audit and then start ordering stuff up. I have a Morrison order coming on Monday, I went in to order a cauliflower, not available....... at the last count my order was almost £70 not quite the highest but getting that way.

Gammon joint cooked, we will have some for supper tomorrow night. I have been falling behind with labelling stuff in the freezer, took out what I thought was liver, it was beef casserole!! I decided to make an apple and blackberry crumble, just enough for tonight and tomorrow. I also put broth mix into the PKP with the gammon liquor and some baby tomato's to make soup, it will make possibly 3 days soup for lunch.

No plans for the rest of the day, tomorrow we are going to do an audit of the store cupboards and freezer to see what I actually have got, then I can do a menu list for the beginning of October and start to build up again.

My goodness the nights are drawing in fast, the autumn equinox is on Tuesday and then we put the clocks back on 28th. We will soon have to be drawing the curtains at 4pm or earlier, and we will have to think about putting the winter duvet on the bed and the heating on. I hate the winter.........like to see the snow but hate to go out in it.

The farmers locally are working to get the last of the crops in, the land ploughed and harrowed and winter crops planted.

There will be no harvest supper at the chapel this year, which is sad, I also doubt there will be an over 60's Christmas lunch either. Two events the village look forward to all year.

so supper tonight is beef and bean casserole with veg and blackberry and apple crumble.
